Biodiversity & Restoration Advisor (Ref: 10296)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Biodiversity & Restoration Advisor – South to support in the delivery of the company’s Biodiversity and Restoration agenda and implementation of the longer-term strategy. We are looking for a skilled individual who is outgoing, highly motivated and innovative with the ability to liaise effectively with different stakeholders, including members of the public, partner organisations and local communities.

About the role

You will be providing value adding technical, specialist, Biodiversity and Restoration support and guidance to the functional and operational businesses, whilst working in partnership with other all operations businesses and contractors, as required to deliver projects in a timely manner.

Other elements to the role include:

  • Contribute to the development of new quarry, extension design and restoration plans at the earliest opportunity. You may be required to give talks and attend local community events
  • Identify potential ecological constraints with proposed and existing operations and ensure appropriate mitigation / compensation can be put in place. Including forthcoming Biodiversity Net Gain obligations
  • Understand ecology and landscape related planning conditions for sites and ensure that they are complied with
  • Ensure protected species surveys are undertaken and any required licenses or permits are in place in time to ensure site development is not compromised
  • Obtain quotes from, and oversee, suitable contractors for works relating to site development, restoration, aftercare and wider land management. Works included vegetation and woodland clearance, planting and seeding, habitat translocation, fencing, footpath creation and other countryside management tasks
  • Work closely with operational management, estates department and external consultants to deliver the above
  • Understand tree safety liability of sites and implement surveys and work to ensure compliance with legislation
  • Ensure all operational quarry sites have a written plan detailing biodiversity management on site (BMP/BAP/LEMP etc) in line with Aggregate Industries and Holcim Group requirements
  • Ensure a company biodiversity plan is maintained and available which reflects current UK policy and LH requirements
  • Engage with conservation groups and local volunteers wherever possible to undertake practical work, surveys and advice which provides valuable engagement with the local community

What will you bring?

  • Holds, working towards, or willing to work towards, a recognised professional qualification e.g.CIEEM
