Laboratory Technician


As a Laboratory Technician you will be conducting day-to-day testing and non-routine sampling and testing of both Concrete and Alternative Fuels and Resources (AFRs) at Cookstown Plant.


Tasks and Responsibilities 


  • Responsible for day-to-day AFR laboratory and concrete laboratory operations
  • Collect and prepare samples for testing
  • Carry out analysis in a timely manner according to plant Quality Control plan
  • Assess sample conformity based on defined specifications, carrying out root cause analysis on any anomalies identified
  • Ensure all test results are accurately reported and communicated to the line manager
  • Conduct additional testing as requested by the line manager
  • First line maintenance and calibration on AFR and concrete laboratory equipment
  • Assist the Cookstown laboratory with chemical and physical testing
  • Support Cookstown process engineering team as required and determined by the line manager
  • Ensure compliance with ACert requirements and test methodologies
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory legislation, BS EN 197 and ISO 9000 standards and the internal company Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental Standards


Essential Criteria


  • Third level degree in chemistry or a related subject
  • Computer literate – ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Drive with an ability to learn and use new software
  • Proven experience of site sampling and testing
  • Proven ability to establish procedures and structures ensuring that all testing requirements are achieved
  • Solid verbal and writing skills
  • Complex problem solving
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills




  • First line maintenance and calibration experience
  • Knowledge of Waste Transfer Compliance
  • Working in a similar environment
