If you’ve found the perfect role, you’ll want to craft the perfect job application. Here are our tips for standing out and making it through to the next stage.

Take your time

Firstly, it’s never a good idea to leave your application until the last minute. Allow yourself plenty of time before the closing date, especially if you’re submitting your application online, as it could take us a little while to get back to you if you need technical help.

Once you’re happy with your answers, read everything through to check for spelling and grammar errors.

Make it relevant

Build your application around the skills and experience we’re looking for so we can see you’re a good match.

Start by reading all the information you have about the role carefully. Then read it again. The job advert will give you a good idea of the type of information we’re looking for.

Once you’re done, check to make sure everything is clear, concise and relevant. Our recruitment team are busy people, so don’t go off topic.

If you have a LinkedIn profile, make sure it’s up to date and demonstrates the same skills and experience you’ve talked about in your application.

Focus on your achievements

This is your one chance to get everything down and show us you’re the right person for the role.

Talk about specific real-life situations to demonstrate skills and give your answers more credibility. Talking about team achievements is fine, but it’s you we’re interested in. Find examples that specifically describe your role, your approach and the outcomes.

If you’re a recent graduate or haven’t been in work for that long, think about other examples that demonstrate your skills and knowledge. University projects, voluntary work and social activities can all throw up similar challenges to the ones you’d encounter in the workplace.
